Milford School of Music Welcomes John Maurer

john-maurer-4x5Milford School of Music is thrilled to announce the addition of John Maurer Jr. to their faculty. John will provide private instruction on all brass and woodwinds with an emphasis on trumpet. His background and experience is an excellent addition to Milford School of Music’s existing roster of band instructors that includes Brian Nivison (Band Director – Current, Eldred JR/SR High School, NY) and Harold Woods (Band Director – Retired, High Point Regional High School, NJ).

John Maurer is quickly being recognized as an “exhilarating, very versatile trumpet performer and educator” (Jose Sibaja, lead trumpet, Boston Brass). Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John graduated The Pennsylvania State University with his master’s degree in Trumpet Performance and received his bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a concentration in Trumpet Performance from Millersville University of Pennsylvania. John had the honor of studying under such trumpet players as Larry Davidson, Dr. Langston J. Fitzgerald, III, Dr. N. Keith Wiley, Jumaane Smith, Jose Sibaja and Wynton Marsalis.

Maurer has conducted residencies and master classes at many renowned colleges and universities such as SUNY – Purchase (NY), University of Richmond (VA), Weber State University (UT), and Arkansas State University (AR) where he performed the premiere of Peter Meechan’s “Orpheus” with combo orchestration.

John has performed at numerous venues throughout North America, including the Arizona Biltmore (AZ), Lincoln Center – Alice Tully Hall (NY), the Curtis Institute of Music (PA), and the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada where he performed for the Brass Residency in 2010 and 2012. In March 2014, John was selected as a semi-finalist for the “National Trumpet Competition” and in May 2014 and 2015, John was given the opportunity to travel and perform in a musical and cultural exploration tour of Cuba. While there, John traveled from Santiago de Cuba, Trinidad and Havana, performing with musicians from Cuba and United States of America. Most recently he held the trumpet chair at the “American Music Theatre” in Lancaster, Pennsylvania from 2015-2016.

Maurer has shared the stage and recorded with many known musicians and ensembles such as Jens Lindemann, Howard Johnson, Awadagin Pratt, Eddie Henderson, Slide Hampton, Les Brown, Jr., Dan Tepfer, Sharon Little, Saint Elouise, the New Age Brass, Andy Mowatt’s Steely Jam, PRIZM DUO and the Agora Brass Ensemble. As a soloist, John has been privileged and honored to perform for public figures such as The Reverend Jesse L. Jackson and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and represented his home city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by performing the United States of America, “National Anthem” in Citizens Bank Park for the Philadelphia Phillies.
